Type-Convert
Two IRI Products Convert Data Types

Challenges:

Translating mainframe binary data types (like COMP), and typical data type conversions like these:
• integer to currency
• EBCDIC to ASCII
• packed or zoned decimal values to binary integer
• European timestamp to ISO timestamp
• floating point to numeric
traditionally require separate tools and I/O passes and in some cases, consultants. Going the other way (i.e. ASCII to packed) can be especially problematic.

Solutions:

Data (and File) Type Conversion Only
IRI's new NextForm product is designed solely for data and file type conversion. If you need to translate input fields from EBCDIC to ASCII or numeric, packed decimal to integer, American to ISO timestamp, IP address to whole number, etc., you can save time and money using NextForm to easily convert between more than 100 field data types.

Next Form also converts files in one format to another, which can be particularly important in mainframe data migrations. With NextForm, you can translate a Micro Focus COBOL I-SAM file into a text file, line sequential to XML, LDIF to CSV and back, etc. NextForm can also reformat your file's record layout, e.g. from fixed to delimited.

Data Migration, Transformation, and Reporting
The above data type conversions are also just one of many reformatting options in IRI's flagship sorting and transformation product, CoSort.

CoSort's Sort Control Language (SortCL) program allows you to specify new data types and file formats as you integrate and stage large files in data warehouse ETL operations, migrate from the mainframe, replace slower shell or 3GL programs, or create custom detail and summary reports.

You can use SortCL scripts to convert a fixed-length EBCDIC file to a CSV ASCII or XML file while sorting, for example. This consolidated processing saves design steps and run times when offloading and pre-sorting data sets for relational database loads on Unix or Windows systems.

CoSort SortCL users can also collate (sort), join, convert between, and create, protect (mask, encrypt, de-identify, etc.), and reformat fields into multiple target output files and structured reports simultaneously.

Contact IRI to discuss your particular requirements. It is also possible to provide a customized data-type conversion or comparison routine for special data forms, for example.
