Sort, Convert, Protect, Create COBOL Files
IRI's
CoSort package provides the tools, libraries, and documented examples you
need to achieve a wide range of COBOL data migration and processing goals
on open systems. With CoSort, you can:
Sort & Convert COBOL Data Types
All CoSort package interfaces support MF and RM COBOL data
type collation. See:
• Sort/Merge
CoSort can also sort EBCDIC data, and convert to
and from EBCDIC data while sorting.
In fact, both CoSort and IRI's new NextForm product convert between all COBOL and other popular data types. See:
• Type-Convert
Both products also include a COBOL copybook translator (called cob2ddf) to translate FD layouts into data definition files that any IRI product can use at runtime.
Accelerate Native Sort Calls
You already know that CoSort is faster than your compiler's built-in sort function. Do you know how many methods
in the CoSort package improve COBOL sort performance?
See:
• Sort replacement for ACUCOBOL-GT
• Sort replacement for Micro Focus COBOL
• Serial/concurrent system calls to SortCL
• Static and dynamic API calls to CoSort
Convert Index, Variable Length & Blocked
Files
The CoSort product's SortCL program, and IRI's NextForm product, can translate between ACUCOBOL-GT Vision files, Micro Focus variable length
records, and I-SAM files.
Simply define your
input and output file formats and record layouts.
In SortCL, however, you can add data filtering, transformation (sort, join, aggregate, etc.), reporting, and protection functions. You can merge COBOL files with files in other formats at the same time, and write
output files in one or more formats. See:
• Data Transformation
• ACUCOBOL Vision
• MF COBOL
Generate Reports
The CoSort product's SortCL program offers a wide range of reporting features you can use to
customize detail and summary targets for presentation, change data capture (delta reporting) and/or hand-offs to other
BI tools. See:
• Reporting Functions
Protect Sensitive Data
Either as a separate process, or in combination with the above CoSort SortCL activities,
you can also employ field-level data masking functions
like encryption and de-identification for index and flat files requiring data-centric privacy. See:
• Field Protection
Create Safe COBOL Test Files
IRI's RowGen product uses the same metadata as SortCL does (along with available copybooks) to define
the layout of index and sequential files containing randomly generated
or selected test data. See:
• Test Data & Files
Audit Data & Applications
For data governance and stewardship efforts, the CoSort SortCL program produces several job logging options. See:
• Data and App Auditing
